When I was a child, I was uneducated and unaware of the much needed services and support that are available for anyone suffering from mental illness, sexual abuse, or drug addiction. As a result, I have collected the following information for anyone wanting to learn more, and especially for those who need help but don’t know where to look. I have also added resources for anyone suffering from an addiction that is looking for hope.

For more information please refer to the following websites:
Mental Health America is one of the largest community based organizations associated with mental health awareness with more than 300 affiliates across the country. They focus on increasing awareness, making changes in policies and educating the public about the issue of mental illness. They also provide information on support groups, prescription payment assistance, finding treatment, and clinical trials.
The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is America’s largest grassroots mental health organizations. They offer information and support as well as programs for those affected by mental illness. NAMI also provide volunteer opportunities at fundraisers and other charity events across the nation.
Run by members of the LDS church, Complete Mental Health Resource’s mission is to increase personal and family wellness, and decrease the burdens of mental illness, addictions and emotional problems. They have resources on addiction, bipolar, schizophrenia, suicide, sexual disorder and more.
The National Mental Health Information Center is a component of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Health Information Center. Established in 1992 under the direction of Congress to provide mental health and substance abuse research to those who could most benefit. Their site provides information and research in various areas of mental illness.
Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network (RAINN) is the nation’s largest anti-sexual assault organization, providing resources for survivors of sexual assault. RAINN operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline (1-800-656-HOPE) and Online Hotline. Their site provides information, news and inspirational stories by those who have survived sexual assault.
Stop it Now is a nonprofit organization whose desire is to stop child sexual abuse through education. They educate families on recognizing the signs of child abuse and encourage adults to take responsible action if they sense a concern, before child abuse can happen.
The National Sexual Violence Resource Center was founded by the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Rape for the purpose of providing resources for victims of sexual crimes. They coordinate the national sexual assault awareness month (SAAM) campaign every April.
The National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-SAFE) has an online resource to educate victims of domestic abuse and to aid them in getting relief. They are the nation’s only domestic violence hotline, servicing shelters and programs across the country.
The national Center for Substance Abuse Treatment is also a component of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Health Information Center. It promotes community based substance abuse treatment services and provides free referrals to abusers in order to help them on their way to recovery.
